Blood Pressure Gauge
What Is A Blood Pressure Gauge? On an aneroid blood pressure monitor, there is a blood pressure gauge that is read by looking at the needle that moves when the cuff is inflated. This gauge is a manual monitor that tells you what your blood pressure is. Systolic pressure is the highest pressure that in an artery when you heart is pumping blood to your body and the diastolic pressure is the lowest pressure in the artery when your heart is at rest. The blood pressure measurement is made up of both of these pressures with the systolic on top of the diastolic. When getting someones blood pressure, you have to use the blood pressure gauge properly in order to get the correct reading. After the cuff is put on to the arm, you need to watch the monitor and inflate the bulb quickly to where the needle on the blood pressure gauge moves up 30 to 40 points past your last systolic reading. Then, you need to use the knob on the bulb in order to start deflating the cuff very slowly. With the stethoscope underneath the cuff, you need to listen to the heart beat and watch the blood pressure gauge at the same time. When you hear the first heart beat, you need to take note of the number the needle was on and that number will be your systolic pressure. As you keep watching the blood pressure gauge, continue to deflate the cuff and you will hear the heart stop at some point, where the needle is when it stops is the diastolic pressure and you need to take note of this. Once you have both of these readings from the blood pressure gauge, you can then be aware of what the blood pressure is of the person who you did the test on. The digital blood pressure machines do not have a blood pressure gauge on them because they are automatically taken by a sensorcontrol and the result is shown on a digital read out on the LCD screen. People who are at home taking their own blood pressure prefer the digital blood pressure machines because they are easier to use and the readings most likely will not be off. If they try to take their blood pressure with the aneroid monitor using the blood pressure gauge, the reading could be off if your listening skills may not be so good or if you are moving at the same time while trying to pump the bulb and hold the stethoscope at the same time. Whichever type of blood pressure monitor that you decide to use which are both noninvasive which means that they do not enter the skin or body anyway like the way a shot is invasive, the most important thing to remember is to get the correct reading and if you are using the blood pressure gauge, it would be a good idea to have someone help you. Several good monitors are the Braun BPM2510 and the Braun BP3550 or Lumiscope products which are all digital and can fit in the palm of your hand. |
